Cyclovar

The Cyclovar™ website no longer exists, and it is very difficult ascertain its formulary because the sites that carry it do not readily release this information. We eventually we found it on a rather unusual source - National Urological Group, for reasons we will get to in a minute. However, the label of Cyclovar™ says it contains: L-Arginine, Cnidium Monnier Extract, Xanthoparrela Extract, ZMA, Gamma Amino Butyric Acid, Naringen and Quebracho Extract.

What the label of Cyclovar™ and some unsavory websites fail to note is that it contains Tadalafil, which is a pharmaceutical grade medication available by prescription only to treat male erectile dysfunction. Tadalafil is also known by its brand name - Cialis. We find this to be a very disturbing development because, while Tadalafil has been shown to be effective in addressing ED, we feel it should not be used in holistic supplements.

Tadalafil inhibits the production of the enzyme PDE5, which is almost exclusively found in the penis. Tadalafil increases the blood flow to the penis by blocking PDE5, which allows cGMP to build up in the penis. This is important because cGMP is responsible for increasing and decreasing the size of the blood vessels transporting blood to and from the penis. This series of chemical reactions hopefully results in creating an erection.

Interestingly the chemical reactions that are set in motion by Tadalafil are similar to the effect that Yohimbe Extract has on the penis. Yohimbe Extract has been shown to increase blood flow to the penis, as well as increase the amount of cGMP, which as noted above, is necessary for stimulation and maintenance of erections. We find there was little need for this developer to step outside the ethical box and use an undisclosed pharmaceutical drug in this formulary when Yohimbe is available.

What we consider to be really concerning about Cyclovar™’s use of Tadalafil is that it has many potential side effects that people should understand. If a man is using a holistic element, then there is likely no reason for him to suspect he will have any issues; however, with Cyclovar™, this is clearly not the case. The possible side effects associated with Tadalafil include facial flushing, diarrhea, flu-like symptoms, gastrointestinal upset, low blood pressure, blurred vision and abnormal ejaculation. Also, it has been connected with erections that last longer than six hours and priapism (painful erections), which may be dangerous. The literature urges individuals to contact a medical professional if an erection lasts more than four hours.

Cyclovar™ has been removed from the market. However, it has come to our attention that it is available through several overseas websites, and we feel we may in no way condone using this product. Pharmaceutical grade medications should always be supervised by a health care provider, and we feel not slipped into products that are advertised as being “holistic”. This is a potentially unsafe procedure, which may result in some men having some severe side effects.

However, the vast majority of holistically-based male sexual enhancement products are safe, and use elements that may substantially improve a person’s sexual experience and erectile functioning. As noted earlier, Yohimbe Extract has been shown to enhance erections by increasing both blood flow and the amount of cGMP in the penis, in order to augment erection hardness, sensitivity and frequency.
