Peyronie's

At this point no doubt many consumers are asking – what is Peyronie's disease, because it is not a commonly known condition. Peyronie's disease was discovered by a French physician- Francois de la Peyronie, in 1743. Since then it has been classified as a type of impotence, because it makes having sex so difficult.

Peyronie's disease is marked by the penis becoming bent during erection. One of the main characteristics of this disease is the development of a stiff, fibrous deposit of scar tissue that frequently builds up under the skin of the upper or lower side of the penis. This can result in painful erections and can make sex extremely difficult, often creating frustration and strain for both the sufferer and their partner.

The symptoms associated with this condition can occur overtime, but they may also occur overnight. In mild cases the inflammation that occurs may subside with time, which means the pain will subside and the bending may not be permanent.

The treatment of Peyronie's disease has been notoriously hard to pin down, and often doctors will suggest that they continue to monitor the situation without instituting medical intervention for 9-12 months. This is because many of the surgical and non-surgical treatments used for this problem can increase the risk of erectile dysfunction. Some suffers have achieved good result by taking Vitamin E. While others have had success by using Intralesional injections, which means collagenase or calcium channel blockers are injected into the scar tissue. There are also surgical options available which have had some success in restoring normal erections; although there are side effects which result in a shortened penis or the partial loss of erection.

The peyronies-treatment website is marketing a procedure which is the use of “Iontophoresis”, that they say delivers medication into the plague on the penis through the use of a concept based on “Electro Motive Drug Administration (EMDA)” which they indicate delivers “electrical charges from a small simple current generator, called a Mini-Physionizer, drive the medication into the scar tissue”. This procedure is not performed in a doctor’s office, but is a do-it-yourself treatment plan, which is performed at home.

However, there is little indication that this method has been adequately researched. We would have liked to have seen more research posted regarding the success of this procedure, and less marketing generated hype. This is a serious issue which should be addressed and consumers should be given the best possible information.

The treatment advertised on the peyronies-treatment website is very much a do-it-yourself treatment plan. We can in no way suggest that men who are wrestling with this painful and serious condition use such a product, especially since this is not one of the recognized treatments commonly used to address this issue. Nevertheless, as mentioned above this can be an extremely complicated issue to treat; and we found this do-it-yourself approach to be rather troubling.

Those men who do not have this issue, but who may be addressing issues around erectile dysfunction may want to investigate holistically based supplementation to help relieve this issue. This is especially true if they use a herbal supplement which contains Yohimbe Extract, which has been shown to be extremely effective in increasing the hardness, frequency and quality of erections. We also often suggest that consumers look for a product which contains a proven testosterone booster such as Tribulus Terrestris.
