We are continually shocked and puzzled by the use of ingredients such as Soy and L-Arginine in supplements designed to boost male sexual prowess. These ingredients, which seem to be ubiquitous in such supplements, reportedly both have mechanisms that may serve to diminish male performance. L-Arginine reportedly stimulates production of prolactin, a hormone released in post-partum women and after male orgasm.

This is the hormone that reportedly makes men drowsy after sex, and is said to greatly diminish sexual drive. In fact, one researcher has dubbed Prolactin “the number one libido killer.” Soy products are also said to have some disturbing effects on men due to their estrogenic activity. This estrogen may upset male hormonal balance, and is said to lead to “feminizing” effects such as penis shrinkage and development of breasts. We hardly see this as a benefit to men. Finally, the ingredient Mucuna Pruriens reportedly contains Levodopa, which may yield such adverse effects as hair loss and “confusion.”

We would note that the addition of estrogens to the body through supplementation may also have undesirable effects for women. Currently, many consumers unknowingly ingest environmental estrogens or “eco estrogens” through hormones in meats, pesticides and other sources. Too much estrogen may present some serious problems for women, including breast cancer and sterility. We would urge consumers to be aware of the potentially aggravating effect this hormone might have on their bodies.

In the end, we do not feel that this product’s benefits justify its unnecessary use of unsuitable components. We believe that augmenting an existing environmental problem is likely to yield unsatisfactory results for both men and women.

The ingredients Panax Ginseng and Tribulus Terrestris can also be found in supplements that do not use phytoestrogens. We particularly like formulations that also contain Epimedium, Damiana, and Yohimbe for ensured results.
